We stand behind our product, and will guarantee protection of your purchase from defects in workmanship, however we cannot warrantee the life span of a flag. Some common concerns and questions about flag maintenance and lifespan are frequently brought up. Hopefully the following information will help your understanding of proper care for your flag.

Prolong the Life of your Flag

By their very nature flags are perishable items. No two flags receive identical wear. Many factors have to be taken into consideration such as location of the flag, the environment, and to what extent preventive maintenance measures are used.

There are many contributing factors to flag wear; wind, rain, and sun to name a few. Colorfast flags WILL fade. Durable outdoor flags will eventually be ripped to shreds. Even the strongest flag cannot survive long being flown during high winds. All flags properly used, will end up tattered and unusable. Just as the soles of your shoes or the tires on your car will wear out faster the more they are used, a flag flying at the top of a flagpole in all weather, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week will wear out too.

Neither you or we can control the elements; however proper maintenance of your flag will help to prolong its life. HERE ARE A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER:

1. Protect your flag from exposure to storms, snow or abnormally high winds, as these conditions can shorten its life. Avoid flying your flag in the rain as wind combined with additional water weight puts undue strain on the fabric and stitching.

2. Prevent mildew by letting your flag dry thoroughly before storing it. Never roll or fold your flag when it is wet or damp as this can also damage the material.

3. The fly end of the flag historically will be the first to reveal wind wear. When this begins, you may trim off the old hem and re-hem the flag. Do this at the first sign of fraying; don’t wait for your flag to be blown to shreds. Contact T & M Flags if you need this service.

4. Beware of abrasion from a rough flag pole or other nearby surface. When flying your flag on a boat beware of shrouds, antennas or pulpits. This will cause a weakening of the stitching and material.

5. Smog and exhaust fumes will only dim the colors and cause deterioration.

6. Continuous day and night display will shorten flag life.

7. Keep in mind that your flag works extremely hard while being displayed, it deserves proper care the same as a valued garment. Only you can prolong its life.

Thank you for your business,
